Buffets and Folktales

I have 2 new pieces to unveil! They are both pretty different as I am experimenting with different styles, but they were both created in my senior studio class.

The prompt for the first one was to create a piece around the theme of "buffet". My mind instantly went to the word "gluttony", and it was along those lines that I created this piece. "You are what you eat" takes on a whole new meaning doesn't it?

This second piece is based on the folktale called "The Panther".  This folktale was an early, more gruesome predecessor to the story we now know as Little Red Riding Hood. Basically it's a panther instead of a wolf, and he eats the mother and brother of these two sisters, dresses up like the mom, then decides to come after the girls for more.  Pretty exciting stuff.

Landscape Colors

As fall has come to visit us, I've gotten the chance to paint the beautiful colors that comes with it! The top painting is a study from Vivian Park up provo canyon. The bottom painting is based on all my studies that I've painted so far. I'm sad it is starting to get too cold to paint outside now!

The best weekend of the year

I hope you'll excuse me for not posting about art this week, but instead I'm opting to talk about something a little more personal to me.  Every six months, our church holds a two-day conference, broadcast throughout the world for anyone to tune into. This conference always gives me the needed boost of inspiration and hope I need!

This session started with a huge announcement that will have a big effect on my family in the near future! The age requirements for missionary service have changed. Men can serve at age 18 (as long as they've graduated from high school or its equivalent) and women can serve at 19.   Having just celebrated my brother's 18th birthday, you can imagine this news was great interest to us! As shocked as we all were, you can imagine none of us were as shocked as my brother Sam! This time next year he could be well into his mission if he chose. It made it so much more real for us!

Thinking about this made me a little emotional. He's just my little brother! And he's growing up so fast. But I have so much confidence in his ability. He would make a great missionary even if he left tomorrow.

Even if this is always how I'll think of him:

I know he'll be a great force for good in the world.
It was exciting and inspired news that I think will really be a positive change.
